Privacy policy
This is a draft. We’ll publish the final policy before Read Like a Local launches.
Read Like a Local is made by ATARY LTD, a UK company (company number 16095622). If you have a question about your data, email [email protected].
Pages you translate
- With your own API key: page text goes from your browser straight to the provider you chose (Anthropic or DeepSeek), under that provider’s terms. It never passes through our servers.
- With the 30-day pass: page text goes through our server to DeepSeek, which translates it on servers in China. Our server doesn’t store the text or the translation. We keep word counts, token counts, and cost for each day so we can show your balance and catch abuse.
Your API key
Your key is stored encrypted in your browser. It’s only sent to the provider it belongs to.
Your account (30-day pass)
If you sign in, we store your email address, a short-lived sign-in code (10 minutes), your session (30 days), and your purchases. Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see your card details.
Waitlist
If you join the waitlist, we store your email address, when you agreed to hear from us, the link you came from, and the country your connection comes from. We don’t store your IP address. We use your email only to tell you when Read Like a Local is available. To remove it, email us.
Visit counts
We count page visits by day and by the link people came from. We don’t store IP addresses, and this site doesn’t set cookies.
Feedback
When you send feedback, we receive your message, any contact details you add, and basic details such as the extension version, your browser, the website’s domain, and recent error types. We never include page text, translations, or your API key. We delete feedback after 90 days.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data or ask us to delete it. Email [email protected].
